Introducing Burned Out, Baby - my first zine!
Burned Out, Baby, is a collection of zines for anyone who struggles with burnout - including autistic burnout.
This first edition, The Burnout Box, is a 14-page handmade zine explaining how to create your own burnout box.
What is a burnout box?
A burnout box is a box of items that meet your basic needs during burnout.
Why have one? To minimise energy expended on locating things around the house.
It is a simple concept, but it made a huge difference to my recovery. I think it could help you too.
What is in this zine?
This zine takes you through exercises to discover:
What your basic needs are during burnout
What items you need to meet those basic needs
Whether you need help creating your burnout box (if so, what that might look like)
If you do, how you can ask for help (including a suggested script)
There are also sections touching on taking your time with processing the zine, taking pressure off yourself to do it all at once, and letting go of any shame you might hold around needing a burnout box in the first place.
I sent this zine to a friend and they said:
“It reads like a personal letter (in this case zine) that a close friend decided to share with the reader.”
I was happy this translated - my hope is that the personal nature of this zine, alongside practical suggestions, will help you feel seen and heard and supported during your burnout. I know I needed that when I was recovering!
Where can you read this zine?

Why is this zine important to me?
This is the first creative project outside of writing this blog and creating content I have finished since I was a youngster.
I’ve always struggled to see projects with many steps through to close, but this time - with the help of appropriate support and medication - I managed it.
My journey makes this zine all the more special to me.
I hope you like it too.
Thank you for reading. xoxo
